UPDATE 22-12-2022: Twemoji has still not been updated to Emoji 15.0 and Twitter (who makes Twemoji) is in chaos. It is not certain whether it will be updated. I have updated the website to use Noto Emoji. These are not the color emoji you may be used to, but I think they fit the site well.
Hello readers. Today I am happy to announce that I have added a new feature to my blog. From now on emoji will look the same on all devices and platforms. π
How does that workβ
I’m glad you asked. I used Twitter’s Twimoji and it’s Javacript magic to replace all the emoji on the page with small vector images (And I am hosting the emoji myself, so no data will be sent to Twitter). This means that your device does not decide how to display any emoji, it just shows the picture.
π€ What are the benefits of this?
There are quite a few, but these are the biggest reasons:
- Any emoji I use will look the same on any device. No more inconsistency! π
- If you don’t have the latest emoji update yet, you can see them without issues on my blog (For those with old unsupported phones, feast your eyes on π« ).
- It helps my blog stay on theme.
π How can I do this?
Go to https://github.com/twitter/twemoji and follow the instructions to embed it in your own website. Sadly, while Twitter has great tools for integrating their emoji with a website, you can’t use it for your whole device.
